The Great London Songs No.6: The Bus Driver's Prayer

By Lwblog @londonwalks

The Great London Songs No.6: The Bus Driver's PrayerWe've asked our London Walkers and London Walks guides to nominate their favorite London songs… and the playlist is proving to be wide-ranging and eclectic indeed.
From punk to jazz, with a little music hall thrown in along the way, we'll be collating them all here on The Daily Constitutional over the next few weeks in the run-up to the launch of our new Rock'n'Roll London Pub Walk every Wednesday from 1st May 2013.
As usual, we want to hear from you. What are your favorite London songs? Anything goes, from a tune mentioning a London location, to a piece of music composed here, if it has a strong London connection or theme, we'll add it to the list. Email us at the usual address, message us on Twitter @londonwalks or leave a comment below…
LW guide Andy Frame, a top notch Jack the Ripper guide and coffee connoisseur (his recommendation for London's best coffee was published earlier on The D.C)  weighs in with a track, without which any list of London Songs would be rendered worthless. It’s The Bus Driver’s Prayer by Ian Dury…
Our Father, Who art in Hendon Harrow Road be Thy name Thy Kingston come Thy Wimbledon In Erith as it is in Hendon. Give us this day our Berkhampstead And forgive us our Westminsters As we forgive those who Westminster against us. Lead us not into Temple Station And deliver us from Ealing, For thine is the Kingston The Purley and the Crawley, For Iver and Iver Crouch End
And here’s the man himself performing it (along with a Charlie Mingus poem) on So It Goes
