The Glorious List of Anime We’ve Regretted Watching

At some point in your anime watching life, you’re going to find a title that you’ll recommend heartily to friends and internet forums.

You will also find a title that you’ll find extraordinarily mediocre but can’t help watch it and then after finishing it say “it was ok” to yourself while either A) people agree with you that it’s ok or B) it’s extremely bad. And then you’ll find that one title that’s just plain bad, and should never be spoken of again.

So…all of that said, what qualifies as an anime that was so glorious and yet was a regrettable watch? That mainly depends on your metric of what’s regrettable and yet glorious at the same time. Let’s just say the gist of this list is — watch in your peril, basically.

BTOOM!

Justin: So this story about a very anti-social gamer getting sent into an island where he has to kill in order to live, on the surface, is actually ok. But then you actually watch it and realize it has unbearable characters (except one, and of course the anime kills him at the end), the characters have no minds (or there’s just rocks inside those minds) and boy the women are DEFINITELY a perfect example of women being treated properly in a medium. (They’re not). In the end, there were so many moments where I could not wrap my head around what was going on, or really care for that matter, that this is definitely an anime that I was fine watching once, but wish I never watched it in the first place.

Well, it’s still hard to regret seeing BOOB SHIELD

Boku no Sekuhara

Kuuki: I think I should start by telling you the story of this, but I’m not sure if it’d be interesting. Basically it’s about men having sex with other men and it’s, obviously, rated R. It’s screaming bad anime from the get go, but I have excuses! First excuse is that I was curious, since it’s an anime that’s bound to come up in any conversation between fujoshi. Second excuse is that there was a seiyuu I love in that anime.

Needless to say I don’t even know how I managed to finish watching it. Yet, in the midst of all the things I have watched and disliked, this one has stayed in my mind forever. It’s a curse. Trust me, I’ll never see corn the same way.

Neomo: I can’t even remember what got me influenced into watching this, to be frank. Everyone I know seems to compare the show to Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, but I definitely disagree. A mysterious family move into the large castle of a secluded village suddenly coincides when the residents disappear only to be found dead, but then after a few days they reappear from their graves to attack and feed on their neighbors. You wouldn’t think it but I actually like a good horror show. The artwork definitely suited the story and plot (with all its flaws and holes). And this would have been something I might have seriously enjoyed if it weren’t for the fact that it was just so so long! So yeah it’s definitely something I definitely regret watching, despite everyone I know raving about it.

Oh, and Gackt played a character in it as well!
