Samsung will launch two versions of the Galaxy Note 20, but the Plus model will be the one with the best screen.
Ross Young, a display specialist and with experience in the production chain, ensures that the Note 20 Plus will be the only model of the two Note 20 that will have a 120Hz display update and LTPO technology, which helps to reduce the speed of update when the screen is not in use.
Young says the Note 20, the basic version of the phone, will feature a 60Hz display upgrade and LTPS technology, which is a step back from the LTPO that the Note 20 Plus will. “[The decision] makes sense because LTPO costs more and should only appear on premium phones,” Young said on Twitter. “You can use 120Hz and LTPS, but it consumes a lot of energy. LTPO is the best implementation for 120Hz.”
SamMobile, citing Young’s information, says the Note 20 will have a resolution of 2,345×1,084, while the Note 20 Plus will have a resolution of 3,096×1,444. If the information is correct, the screens will be very different between Note 20 and Note 20 Plus. The week of May 11 it was revealed that Samsung will not launch an “Ultra” version of Note 20, unlike the S20 series which had three models and one of them was the S20 Ultra.
Samsung will be one of the companies to use LTPO on Note 20 Plus (if the report is confirmed). Apple is another company that wants to use this technology but apparently, its first iPhone with LTPO on-screen will last until 2021. The Cupertino firm already has some patents related to LTPO.
The Galaxy Note 20 would be announced in August. Samsung has not released official statements.
