The Full Monty (Series) Review

Posted on the 23 June 2023 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

26 Years after the famous night of stripping we head back to Sheffield to see how the lads are getting on and greeted with many hard hitting and very tough life battles and moments.

Number of episodes: 8

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Full Monty film in 1997 was rather groundbreaking and was nominated for Best Picture at the 1998 Oscars. It really is a truly fantastic film and to head back to the characters after 26 years is a very interesting journey.

Across the eight episodes each is given a hard hitting and rather current problem or issue and that is addressed throughout and then linked into the next with each character having different moments of being more in the spotlight.

Gaz is still a total chancer and seems as though he has continued his ways over the past 26 years! With his son Nathan now working as a policeman, certainly something to make everything a little tricker. We are also introduced to his daughter Destiny who is in her final year at school and rebelling against pretty much everything around her.

Dave and Jean have moved on from Asda and she is now a head teacher at a secondary school with Dave working as the caretaker. The marriage is very strained for a few different reasons which leads to many questions being asked of one another. Lomper is married to a man named Dennis and they run a cafe together where the gang often meet up daily. Horse has many struggles and raises some very important messages in the same way as Daniel Blake.

Without any major spoilers for each episode the hard hitting nature really does go all in against the government and politics surrounding everything in the current world. I guess it was similar in terms of the original story and the closing of the factories at that time which had a huge impact on Sheffield. Maybe this series raises the question that things never really get any better and life is always tough when you’re near the bottom. Even with all of these stories we do get many funny moments combined into it and I guess that is how we get through life by laughing at different situations where we could also cry!

Having the cast back again was actually a rather nice nostalgic series and it was much better than I thought it was going to be.
