G/F 9 Old Bailey Street, Central, Hong Kong. Brunch is my favorite meal of the weekend. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that I wake up at 7am on a Saturday morning, make a fruit bowl and some granola and get the weekend off to a healthy start. I really don't do that. I mean, you're lucky if I'm out of bed by 12pm. It's all about brunch when you're busy squeezing as much as you can out of every moment of the week.
The Flying Pan is one of my more recent discoveries in Hong Kong. A 24-hour diner-style eatery voted the Best Place for Brunch in HK in 2014, The Flying Pan is nestled away in Central, serving Western (mostly USA) breakfast food all day and all night. It's perfectly situated for those who fancy a sit-down brunch at 4am after LKF, but also ideal for an easy, know-what-you're-getting brunch before a day ahead. Prices are reasonable for the food offered and there's an extensive menu too.
I opted for waffles with sausage and eggs, a failsafe option for me. The portion was huge and sadly I couldn't finish it all; around one waffle plus both sides were plenty for me. I thought it leaned a little on the greasy side for my personal liking but sometimes that's what you need after a Friday/Saturday night! Also ordered a super yummy chocolate milkshake which satiated my sweet tooth but wasn't anything to write home about.
It's easy to see why The Flying Pan is always crammed with customers - it's a cute little establishment styled like an American diner where you know exactly what you can have. Oftentimes brunch menus finish at 1pm or sometimes even 12pm, and this is a good option in an easy-to-find area that you can fall back on before wandering through the slopey streets of the area.
