Story: The Electric State starts after a robot uprising and war with humanity. It saw the humans win and develop a smarter way to use robots with their brains. However, not everything has gone smoothly, and teenager Michelle (Brown) wonders what happened to her genius brother Christopher (Norman).
She gets visited by a robot based on his favorite cartoon Cosmo, who claims to know his location. The pair goes on the run, searching for him and joining forces with former soldier-turned-smuggler Keats (Pratt). However, what they discover could change the way humanity sees the world.
Verdict on The Electric State
Recap
The movie follows a teenager searching for her lost brother in the backdrop of a war torn apart by a robot war. She teams up with a smuggler and a friendly robot to expose the truth about the bigger conspiracy controlling the robot wars.
Best Parts
The visual world creations are brilliant, the different robots designed to have the most character. That is the biggest highlight of the movie, they feel like they have been ripped out of the graphic novels the film is based on.
Worst Parts
The human characters struggle to make any impact in the movie, they are plain and largely forgettable. When it comes to the story it also struggles to feel like anything new and the performances lack the passion the movie wants to bring to life. For the budget this movie has, we are left wondering where all the money went.
Final Thoughts –The Electric State struggles to justify the budget, despite some brilliant machine creations.
