The Dream Team Indoor Picnic 2017

By Winyeemichelle
The Sunday before last marked our annual get-together, fueled by hot gossip, unapologetically trendy bites and a solid afternoon of chatting without worrying about hour-and-a-half table time at brunch spots or of running out of dishes on menus.
Eye-wateringly cold, our mini Girl Gang (sans Elodie, sob!) descended upon the Barbican and over to Lily’s abode for one final hurrah before she leaves us for warmer and stricter climes in Dubai. The Indoor Picnic is somewhat of a tradition amongst us now, beginning as a huge outdoor bonanza in 2012 that we extended to a blogging meet-up - I’d absolutely love to host another of these in the summer, if anybody’s interested? - to the following year at Lily’s old flat accompanied by those tubs of chocolate rice crispies from M&S and continuing to 2017.
Our food has greatly improved over the years, hasn’t it?
Sarah and Hannah made a quinoa, apple and kale salad and baked a super-hygge Danish chocolate cake. Both incredible!
Lily bought/pretended to bake artisan bread, made with butternut squash.
Sophie made a bloody delicious veggie stew.
And I? I brought shop-bought salads, duh.
In typical Dream Team manner, Hannah, Sarah and Sophie showed up in the same shirt, managing to look effortlessly like some sort of super-inclusive Zara ad campaign.
Our conversation swayed from here to there, an obligatory rundown of all new in our lives since that morning’s WhatsApp group chat, a little praise and chatter of the Women’s March the previous day, and a discussion of which presidents had died in office, accompanied by The Times’ supplement. Oh! And we managed to get Elodie on FaceTime from all the way in France! (We of course forced her to do a live haul and room tour.)
We meandered over to the Barbican Conservatory to shoot outfit photos for Sophie and I, as well as, of course, soaking up the jungle vibes right inside the city. London never ceases to amaze me! Did you know you can even have afternoon tea in there?!
Hannah and I got to introduce Lily to Game of Thrones at long freaking last. And so the picnic ended in high spirits as always.
