Mercenary Jamie Shannon travels to Zangaro claiming to be a bird watcher. But when the government figure out he’s more than that they torture and deport him. But he’s not just going to leave it at that . . .
He really wants to make them pay and leads a coup to overthrow the President and place a new man in his place. Christopher Walken drew me to this film when I decided to watch it on MGM a few nights ago. I thought well I might as well give it a watch. Now this film is definitely something that Walken really keeps going and probably one of very few actors who could pull off this type of role.
It has you on the edge of your seat as Shannon is trying to find out as much as possible about Kimba for the British who are interested in some type of mining. Shannon is never really told all of the details on his first trip out to Zangaro, so it isn’t clear why exactly he is on the assignment. Looking at his life in the US his apartment doesn’t have much his TV doesn’t work properly and he just seems to survive rather than actually live.
It does take a bit of getting going but builds it up nicely for the ending and some very good action scenes which will have you on the edge of your seat as it all unfolds. Showing that Shannon was always his own man no matter who was paying for his service, he took things very personally and made sure he then sorted everything out in the end.
Baring in mind how long ago this film was set and the subject matter it makes you wonder if things have really changed that much in certain countries and if any of these issues still exist to this day!
