Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy have shared new single ‘Queuejumper’ and tour dates ahead of the release of new 16-song album ‘Office Politics’ on 7 June.
A piano-led hoedown that starts with a jaunty oddball drumbeat, the single finds Neil with tongue firmly in cheek: ‘I jumped the queue ’cause I’m smarter than you, I jumped the queue ’cause I’m better than you’. It’s delivered in a melodic, sing-along way that’s sure to work well in the live setting.
The song then finds Neil’s character delivering more lines that will bring to mind those people who love nothing more than talking about themselves: ‘I’m better than you, I don’t have to play by the usual roles’; ‘I take what I want because it’s there to be taken and you’re just jealous of the money I’m making’. It finishes with the defiant admission that ‘I’m going to cruise on through’.

“Office Politics” is a 16 track tour de force full of inventive, timeless music peopled with a typically irreverent cast of characters. “It has synthesizers. And songs about synthesizers,” Neil says. “But don’t panic. It also has guitars, orchestras, accordions, and songs about love and greed.” But ‘Office Politics’ central characters are the machines.
