Kevin a young lawyer is given a brilliant chance at a law firm in New York, but is everything really as it seems? Many twists and turns make it seem as though his new boss is in fact Satan!
The film begins with Kevin facing a moral dilemma towards the client he is defending when he realises that the man is in fact guilty. This sees the start of his downward spiral which will pretty much destroy his life. His wife would take an even bigger downward spiral with the move to New York and how the firm he is working for seems to consume people. She does not cope well with hardly seeing her husband and really does lose her mind. This creates many different to watch scenes but a very good performance from Charlize Theron.
I’ve never been a big fan of Keanu Reeves and in all honesty this film doesn’t really change my opinion on him. His wooden style does not make his character very likeable for help feel any sympathy towards him which is a shame as that is probably how we are meant to feel towards this man who is fighting many battles in his rise for the top. Including his crazy boss who just happens to be the devil?
Al Pacino you really cannot say many bad things about and he really is larger than life in this film. He is such a charming man even when playing the devil and someone who does so many terrible things. But maybe a little too much at the same time? Unless that’s due to the lack of chemistry with Reeves? I don’t know how to properly explain what I mean.
I am trying not to be too harsh on this film as while I found it rather messed up for reasons I cannot say due to spoilers I was enjoying it up until the last 15 minutes when it got to much for itself with the twists and ended up being a bit pointless? Or was it being really clever and actually have a very good message? I would say I would watch it again to properly make my mind up but I feel once is enough in this case!
