What it is, Why It’s Destructive, and How to Respond

The Deconstruction of Christianity

Author: Alisa Childers & Tim Barnett

Summary: A movement called ‘deconstruction’ is sweeping through our churches and it is affecting our loved ones. It has disrupted, dismantled, and destroyed the faith of so many, and this book can help you not only understand what’s happening but also stand your ground and respond with clarity and confidence.

Review

I heard of this book from the Cultish podcast. There was a episode where Alisa Childers was a guest and she talk about her book. It was interesting and I end up buying the book. Also to note Tim Barnett runs the Youtube channel Red Pen Logic.

Authors Alisa Childers & Tim Barnett take a look the what, who, why, and how of people deconstructing the Christian faith. Using not only logic and reason but, with kindness and compassion in how to respond for those who are deconstructing.

I like how this book does not fluff things up. Alisa and Tim do criticism the church and how there are bad apples that can lead one away from the faith. They give you the tools to form rational arguments by finding the root meaning of words and looking at scripture for answers. It keeps it real by saying people that have succumb to their emotion are not going to think on a rational level.

Also like how Alisa and Tim different deconstruction vs. reforming your faith to get back to the basics of what is true and biblical Christianity.

Last but not least the authors talk about how the Christian faith should have room for doubts and question. Those are healthy things to have in order to strengthen one’s faith.

Mainly this book is for people who know someone or are deconstructing themselves. While I don’t know anyone nor am I deconstructing (In sum I understand progressivism contradicts Christianity). With the clear answers that are given on scripture and faith, this book is worth a read.
