Matthias Reichert, COO at Sport1 GmbH and a member of the executive team, said, “we are implementing a major sports highlight in the ‘Decentraland’ metaverse with the Darts World Cup – my special thanks go out to them our team, which has worked on the project with a lot of passion and commitment over the past few weeks.”

Jan Schwark, co-founder of 42Meta, has said that broadcasting sporting events is one of the most interesting ways to use this new media ecosystem.” We are very pleased that SPORT1 is breaking new ground with us as a first mover and is creating a new sports and brand experience for one of the most popular sporting events and its fans.”

Ismaning, Düsseldorf, the 14th of December, 2022 Fans of the game can now watch the best players in the world compete in “Decentraland,” and they can even hold their own darts tournament to celebrate the start of the Darts World Cup. The grand prize of the contest is a trip for two to London, England, on January 3, to watch the World Cup final. Together, SPORT1, the leading multichannel sports platform in the German-speaking area, and 42Meta, a leading Metaverse full-service agency and a German pioneer in augmented branding and programmatic advertising in Web 3.0, have created an innovative virtual sports event in one of the most well-known Metaverses.

Tomorrow, the “Alexandra Palace” in London will host the biggest darts tournament of the year (also known as “Ally Pally”). The deadline for this competition is January 3, 2023. For the first time ever, darts fans can take part in the Darts World Cup from the comfort of their own homes in the Metaverse. They can even host their own virtual darts tournament.

The Darts World Cup in the Metaverse is SPORT1 and 42Meta’s first venture into Web 3.0. The virtual sports event will take place in Decentraland, one of the most popular metaverses right now. Some of the most successful companies in the world are already using Decentraland as an extra way to talk to each other. 42Meta put up a “Virtual Ally Pally” there for the World Cup. It had a fan store, a hall of fame, video walls, and the best darts setting for SPORT1. Darts fans can use their in-game avatars to go to the Sports Palace in “Decentraland” while the competition is going on.
