The David Hart Spring-Summer 2015 collection was unveiled during New York Fashion Week and represented a powerful presence due to their use of clean lines and the pure colors and styling.
Inspired by the Californian city of Palm Springs, this collection focused on a very youthful approach to suits and proposed an original way to wear semi-formal clothes. The pieces featured relaxed lines and clean cuts that were inspired by everything from the natural landscape of the area to Modernist architecture by Alexander, Neutra, Frey, Lautner and Wexler. David said that “The inspiration behind the prints is the natural landscape of Palm Springs”.
The creations featured an array of prints, textures and pale colors that are the perfect spring-summer pieces for a youthful man of the world. This very Californian collection had a playful spirit and featured dusty hues, sorbet tones and rich nature nuances, juxtaposed with exotic leaves prints, abstract motifs inspired by Joan Mirò and geometric micro-patterns, resulting in an artistic outcome. By updating an aesthetic in a contemporary way, the designer put a new twist on formal and casual suits.
The colors were one of the collection’s best features. They were inspired by the colorful works of American photographer Julius Schulman. The way in which his photographs were derived into clothing is truly an amazing study of the connection that different arts have with one another and of how the same idea can be translated in different mediums.
What we liked most about this collection and considered to be a true fashion lesson for all men who want to take their style in their own hands was the exquisite styling of the looks which used very simple but effective rules.
We often talk about color coordination and say that colors which lie close to each other on the color wheel go great together. Using this information, you can create so-called “analog color combinations”. Some examples are: blue and purple, red and orange, orange and yellow, etc.
This type of color combination is very organic and is very often found in nature. Analog color combinations are very comforting and relaxing.
It is impressive how, even though this collection was inspired by so many vintage elements, there is nothing outdated or vintage-y about it. This is another thing we can learn: referencing a time, a place, an artist or an idea can be done in more subtle ways than by just wearing a costume or a direct reference.
This eclectic collection put fresh, well-tailored suits and floral-print short-sleeve button-downs paired with straw fedoras, together with unbuttoned bowling shirts. This gave the collection a whimsical but glamorous signature.
