The Culture of Hip Hop The Staten Island Story Part 1 is a documentary exploring the different groups and areas in Staten Island. It follows the rise of musicians but focuses on the history of racial tension in the area through the late 80s and early 90s.

We meet a host of different artists from the era talking about their first break and attempts to sound different. It also highlights the daily struggles to make an impact against the odds.

As someone who knows nothing about Hip Hop, it is interesting to see how people worked to make it fun. It never seemed to be about the money, but was about the entertainment it provided. We have more to come with parts 2 and 3, so hopefully we can learn more.
