Why did Margaret Thatcher resign?
Thatcher led the Conservative Party to victory in three consecutive general elections. After eleven years in the UK's highest office, Thatcher resigned. Basically, this was due to her election tax policy and resistance to further British integration into the European Community, which alienated some members of her party. It did not get a majority in the Conservative Party's annual vote to elect a leader. In 1990 she announced her resignation and was replaced by John Major.

Royal biographer Penny Junor told The Times of London that by season four Charles would likely be "incredibly upset" because Lord Mountbatten says the Royal Family are disappointed with Charles' relationship with Camilla, adding that Mountbatten added Camilla was "just not historically correct".
