The Crow (2024)- Don’t Just Push Out remakes Unless You Have A Fresh perspective
Quick Take: Thank God, Bill Skarsgard is also in Nosferatu this year. This is a career killer. This is one of the most incompetent efforts of the year, made by a director who likely will never be handed a budget higher than “we’re trying to get on Tubi” ever again. It is such a weird thing, to think that no one stopped at any point and notice how awful this film actually is. Lionsgate dropped some massive bombs in the second half, and this is by far the worst. I’m not against a remake of the Crow, but if you look at the many sequels no one talks about, or the TV show, there is a reason people really only respect Alex Proyas’s original starring Brandon Lee. Sure, it is tragically his last film, but Proyas brought a level of creativity to the project, lifting it from the comics, showing signs of respect for the source, and making a cinematic experience still memorable today (though I can’t find any existing audio description for the original). the remake needed a visionary director. it needed a Guillermo Del Toro, who also did an excellent job putting Hellboy on screen. Or Robert Eggers, who just masterfully remade Nosferatu. It needed an auteur, otherwise it just becomes another reason we don’t need remakes, sequels, or anything in between. FKA Twigs doesn’t have the cinematic body of work to be able to follow this up. She may go the way of Megan Fox, and find herself starring in randomly awful films like Subserviance to pay the bills, simply because this should have never been made. For more, check out my video.
