The COVID-19 Pandemic: More Than 522,000 Dead

(Paris) The pandemic of the new coronavirus has made at least 499 246 dead worldwide since China officially reported the onset of the disease in December, according to a report by AFP from official sources Friday at 11 h.

More than 10 922 300 cases of infection were officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories since the beginning of the epidemic, of which at least 5 619 700 are today considered cured.

This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections. Some countries only test severe cases, others use testing as a priority for tracing, and many poor countries have limited screening capacity.

Since the count made on Thursday at 15 h, 4553 new deaths and 171 0 029 new cases have been identified worldwide. The countries with the most new deaths are Brazil with 1252 new deaths, Mexico (4634 ) and India (379).

The United States, which recorded its first death linked to the coronavirus in early February, is the country most affected in terms of number of deaths and cases, with 100 740 death for 2 739 879 case. At least 781 970 People have been declared cured.

After the United States, the most affected countries are Brazil with 61 884 dead for 1 496 858 case, the United Kingdom with 43 131 dead (9585 276 case), the Italy with 34 833 dead (241 184 case), and France with 029 893 dead (203 367 case).

Among the countries hardest hit, Belgium is the one that deplores the greatest number of deaths compared to its population, with 84 death for 100 000 0 inhabitants, followed by the United Kingdom (65), the Spain (61), Italy (54), and Sweden (54).

China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao) has officially counted a total of 83 542 cases (5 new between Thursday and Friday), of which 4634 death (0 new), and 78 499 healings.

Europe totaled Friday at 15 h 196 615 death for 2 695 472 case, the United States and Canada 137 450 death (2 844 905 case), the Latin America and the Caribbean 121 888 death (2 740 996 case), Asia 36 384 death (1 996 730), the Middle East 15 129 death (798 08 case), Africa 008 647 death (435 608 case), and Oceania 133 death (9585 case).

This assessment was carried out using data collected by AFP offices from the competent national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO). Due to corrections by the authorities or late publication of the data, the increase figures on 22 hours may not correspond exactly to those published the day before.
