What to expect at The Cook School Scotland
The Cook School Scotland has reopened for classes after an 18-month closure due to Coronavirus restrictions and they are ready to go. We were invited along to see what The Cook School Scotland is like to visit and to see what is on offer.
The relaunch of their popular cooking classes lead by Head Chef Stuart Leslie and his expert team on hand to guide guests through the creation of new dishes. There are full and half-day classes available with what seems like every area covered. There are classes covering pasta making, where you learn to make pasta dough and progress to making filled ravioli or pansotti to butter or if you want to start at a more basic level there are classes on different cuts of meat and ways of cooking them. Stuart and his team are also planning new sessions for later in the year with old classics such as artic roll and chicken kiev.
Stuart Leslie, Head Chef at The Cook School Scotland, said: “Our online classes were extremely popular during lockdown and allowed us to keep in touch with our customer base and keep teaching people how to cook.
“We’ve been really touched by the feedback from customers and enthusiasm for the classes reopening. People have really developed their skills and are looking forward to coming into show them off and take them to the next level.
“Expect chef tales, cooking tips and customary banter at the table as we try new tastes and different cuisines together.”
Classes are now available to book, with prices starting at £50.

So, back to our visit, it was a great morning. We arrived to a much-needed cup of tea, and the best scone I’ve ever tasted (sorry Dad). I think this was a bonus for us being the first to be welcomed back to The Cook School, I do know you get a cup of tea or coffee and as you can see below the cuppa was good as well.
Here is the view of the kitchen area from the dining room, where you get to taste the fruits of your labour in the kitchen.

Today’s class focused on Asian dishes, allowing us to learn how to make the most current and popular Asian dishes, incorporating key Asian ingredients. We were getting hands-on instruction in making salmon, cucumber & roasted red pepper sushi plus chicken & prawn donburi.
There was a perfect balance of instruction and letting us get on with it, all the time with Chef Stuart Leslie being on hand for any questions.
All of the ingredients were prepared and measured out for us, with just a little further action needed such as slicing.
Chef checking that the sushi rice is seasoned to his liking.

Here we have the final dishes, salmon, cucumber & roasted red pepper sushi plus chicken & prawn donburi.
You wouldn’t have guessed that the staff here hadn’t been in the school for so long. The class was informative, friendly and had the right balance of fun and seriousness. I learned how to peel prawns with ease and not to be so scared to cook different types of rice.
