Wearing a wig has become a fashion statement. Today it is almost as if you are living in the past if you don’t have at least one wig and most people in everyday life have more than one wig.
Wigs are no longer an embarrassment or something to hide, in fact, wigs have become a status symbol and most definitely part of the fashion-conscious best accessory.
The popularity of a wig can be attributed to its versatility and style, convenience aside, let’s face it, nothing looks as stunning as a voluminous shiny, and natural wig. When you shake your hair in the sunlight and it simply glistens your self-confidence jumps up at least two notches, right?
As wigs developed lacefront wigs became the number one choice. Lacefront wigs give the wearer the freedom of knowing that their hair looks natural and no matter which way the wind blows a wig cap won’t be exposed causing embarrassment.
The UNICE professional team has put together some facts to make your choice of lacefront wigs easier and less daunting:
Why Wear a Lacefront Wig?
Lacefront wigs are versatile at their best. With a lacefront wig, you can enjoy any outdoor activity from swimming to horse riding to the gym. If you are worried that your hair might look sticky and people will see you are wearing a wig, the lacefront wig sets your mind at ease. Lacefront wigs are made with the hair knotted so closely that even small droplets of perspiration won’t give away your secret, that is how natural looking a lacefront wig is.
What is a Lacefront Wig?
A lacefront wig refers to the construction of the cap into which the hair is knotted. The lace used is a sheer mesh type of fabric that is at the front of the wig. Individual hair fibers are hand-knotted close together into this delicate fabric. Because the hair is knotted so densely it gives the illusion that the hair is growing out of your scalp.
How does a Lacefront Wig Fasten?
When you select your lacefront wig it is important to ensure it is the correct size to fit your head snugly. Measure your head from the forehead to the nape of your neck. Then measure around the entire head and lastly measure from ear to ear. These measurements will ensure you select the right size lacefront wig. If you are new to wearing wigs you might want to wear a non-slip wig grip underneath your lace front. This will ensure your wig remains in one place and does not slide off to one side.
Lacefront Wig Adhesive
If you would feel more secure knowing your lacefront wig is secured onto your scalp you can use an adhesive. The lace used when manufacturing a lacefront wig is a very delicate material, so only use the adhesive recommended by the wig supplier. Using a regular paper adhesive will damage the lace as it contains chemicals that break the bonds of the fabric.
Prior to applying the adhesive clean your hairline from dust, perspiration, and makeup. Use an alcohol-based make-up remover or toner that will balance the PH of your skin.
- Apply the adhesive directly to the clean scalp in an even layer. Take care not to have big blotches or else the adhesive will seep through the lace and knot the wig hair.
- Don’t apply the adhesive onto your natural hair as it will damage the hair when you remove the wig.
- You can also use adhesive tape to secure the lacefront wig. If this is the method you have selected, place the tape on the cap and not onto your scalp.
- Removal of the adhesive must be done with care not to damage the lace or your scalp. Use a ‘Lace Release’ product made especially for lacefront wigs. This product can be used whether using adhesive placed onto the scalp or adhesive tape. It loosens the bonds of the adhesive and enables you to gently remove the lacefront wig.
Where do I Position the Lace of the Lacefront Wig?
Always place the lace front along the front of your natural hairline. Take care not to place it too far back because once you have trimmed the lace and plucked out all the stray strands of hair the wig may appear unnatural looking as it is too far back from your forehead. A good idea is to measure 4 fingers from the bridge of your nose. Once you have done this and before you affix the wig move the wig forwards or backward to get it into the perfect position.
How Long Can a Lacefront Wig Stay On?
Our styling professionals recommend that you remove the lacefront wig daily. Do not sleep in your delicate lacefront wig as the hair can tangle and damage the fibers of the hair. Rolling around on your pillow, if you are a restless sleeper can cause damage to the lace.
Let your Lace Wig Breathe
Before you go to bed, place your wig on a stand or a foam head. The lace fabric is specially designed to breathe. Letting your lace wig breathe overnight will stop it from getting a musty or strange smell from being secured to your head all day.
