By Newguy

logoDirector: Jeff Renfroe

Writer: Jeff Renfroe, Svet Rouskov, Patrick Tarr, Pascal Trottier (Screenplay) Patrick Tarr, Pascal Trottier (Story)

Starring: Kevin Zegers, Laurence Fishburne, Bill Paxton, Charlotte Sullivan, Dru Viergever, Atticus Dean Mitchell, John Tench, Lisa Berry, Lucius Hoyos, Kimberly-Sue Murray, Michael Mando

Plot: After the next ice-age hits human are forced into underground bunkers to create new colonies. When one Colony hears a distress call from another one they go to investigate and what they find could cause the end of humanity as they know it. Sam (Zegers), Briggs (Fishburne), Mason (Paxton) all have different motives to get through but in the end all they are all aiming towards to same goal, survival.

Verdict: The end of the world cold and hunger but lost

Story: The survival horrors can work nicely because you should get the tension but survival goals from a community that gets interrupted by something that can challenge their beliefs. This one use cannibals who act more like infected zombies with weapons, is that what we will turn into? I think not. With very little character development we just don’t care which survivors make it or not. (5/10)

Actor Review: Kevin Zegers – Sam a young man getting through who willingly goes on the mission to the other colony to find out the truth, but in the end becomes the reluctant hero. Kevin gives the best performance but doesn’t really convince in the leading role. Miscasted Award (6/10)

Actor Review: Laurence Fishburne – Briggs an ex-soldier and leader of the colony who goes on the mission but his choice drives a rivalry with a fellow colonist Mason. Laurence gives an ok mentor like figure performance but really doesn’t give it his all. Pay Check Performance Award (5/10)

Actor Review: Bill Paxton – Mason the one colonist who is willing to kill his own to survive but deep down he is just as scared as the rest. Bill has to start questioning why he is doing these sorts of films after building up a great reputation Poor Performance Award (5/10)

paxton

Director Review: Jeff Renfroe – Has a great world created but doesn’t execute the tension really needed to make this film what it could have been. (6/10)

Action: Some good fights and plenty of gun battles but nothing really original. (7/10)

Horror: Not the scariest horror you will see it falls a bit flat even though the situation is scary. (5/10)

Sci-Fi: Another bleak look at the future. (7/10)

Special Effects: Some good special effects for the death scenes. (8/10)

Believability: The new ice-age could happen but that is about it. (3/10)

Chances of Tears: No (0/10)

Settings: The settings are good for isolation but really don’t get used well enough for the films idea. (6/10)

location

Worst Part: No tension.

Kill Of The Film: Leader of the feral

Oscar Chances: No
