The Bull Brothers‘ ‘This Is What Happens’ is a sparse and stunning alt-folk song that has been expertly produced by Matt Ingram (Laura Marling’s drummer). It opens with the brothers explaining how ‘I hate to be the one that shows you this is what happens when you hurt somebody. This is what happens when you don’t play fair’ before then challenging the person who has caused so much pain: ‘Maybe you don’t know how to love somebody. Maybe you do and you just don’t care’. There are some intensely visceral lyrics as the brothers go on to discuss a house burning down with its walls falling down in comparison to the behavior of this person in a style that brings to mind both Nick Drake and Bon Iver.
