New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell returns with a delicious new series, The Brides of WishmoreWhat happens when a bride says no? He is the bastard son of a duke, arrogant, handsome, a little bit dangerous, and, of course, one of the most sought-after bachelors in London. He is also about to be publically jilted by some chit of a girl! Blake Stephens' pride isn't about to let him be humiliated, so he charges after his bride to the wilds of Scotland, determined to bring her to the altar. What happens when the heart says yes? He is promised to one woman, but discovers his soul stirred by . . . the chit's sister! Lady Aileen Davidson's reputation was ruined ages ago, which is why she's buried herself in the country, but her fiery spirit and bold beauty threaten to bring Blake to his knees, making him wonder if he has proposed to the wrong lass. And now he must make a choice: marry for honor . . . or marry for love?

I really enjoyed this story. Aileen is a character who I think almost anyone can relate to in at least some way, or at least I sure do. She is a woman who stood up for herself and shouldered the scorn of walking away from an abusive marriage. In that time though she really was not treated well because of the thought process of women being more of a possession of their husband than an individual themselves. So she hides at her family home and makes a quiet life for herself. Well that’s till her younger selfish sister jilts a man and returns home hoping that the man she really loves still returns the affection. Heedless to the feelings of either man. Her jilted Fiancé Blake Stephens follows Tara home determined to woo her back. But then he realizes he’s chasing the wrong sister. So the majority of the story is how these three sort it out, because Aileen has feeling for Blake but she loves her sister Tara. So this triangle is interesting to watch as it sorts its way out. Tara just seems so selfish to me, always thinking only of herself while Aileen is the complete opposite. This is an interesting read, I did enjoy how the characters interact and I’ve always enjoyed this time period so this book was a joy to read.
