The Brick Layer

I do like to occasionally remind any potential readers who think life is just peachy as a blind film lover that all is not as it seems. We still have to deal with the overwhelming majority of titles lacking audio description, often even titles that HAVE audio description, but due to incompetence/apathy have not transferred the already created audio description tracks from streaming service to streaming service. That’s why we have a website that shows us what has audio description where, because we live in a world where we can’t just assume that because audio description has been created, that we can then watch it wherever whenever. That would be too easy.

So Netflix dropped Aaron Eckhart’s John Wick wannabe The Brick Layer without audio description. It’s an action movie, so it was really hard to follow. Like, I’m not really sure what the film is about, except to say it felt very much like a guy being pulled back into this world he supposedly left. Nina Dobrev, Clifton Collin’s Jr, and Tim Blake Nelson co-star, and Renny Harlin (Deep Blue Sea, Cliffhanger, The Strangers: Chapter One) directs.

I really have nothing to say about this film. To those who made it, make sure your art is accessible to your whole audience. I did sit through this, beginning to end, but I couldn’t come up with a grade for this if I tried. I don’t hate everything Renny Harlin directs, just a lot of his stuff. The cast is solid, and has three actors that should have Oscar nominations by now. I would have also nominated Aaron Eckhart in Supporting Actor next to Heath Ledger for The Dark knight, Clifton Collin’s Jr for Jockey, and Tim Blake Nelson for Old Henry.

But this?

Final Grade: unwatchable
