Set in the 1930s focusing on the University of Washington’s rowing team who are attempting to get to the Berlin Olympics in 1936, pushing the boundaries for the gold medal.

The height of the great depression as the young men attempt to do the impossible as massive underdogs to even make it to the Olympics let alone going on to winning the gold medal. While it is an inspirational story with everythign they managed to achieve and the high amount of time that needs to be put into the training as part of a rowing team. However, the film falls massively short in managing to get this across to the viewer in a good way.
We follow Joe Rantz as our main character and attempting to show how he has had a tough life and that the college experience and being part of the rowing team will help him change everything. But again it just falls short as lacks that real passion. Even when we have coach Al Ulbrickson as well with different methods to the team.
Sport based films are always something that I more than look forward to, working in sport and having studied all aspects of it for nearly twenty years now, but this one really does fall short in being inspiring and showing what is needed to be successful at the Olympics.
