The Boathouse, Rouken Glen. Review

Sail away to Rouken Glen at The Boathouse

Some fresh air at Rouken Glen Park meant a stop off at The Boathouse.  As the name suggests, this delightful Pavillion was part of the area where you could hire a boat and sail around the pond.  I miss the boats at the park, but watching the wildlife is just as interesting. Swans, ducks and coots were out enjoying the May sunshine.

There is an outside seating area, takeaway and inside seating.  After being in lockdown for so long, we decided that sitting inside would be best.

As you can see there is lots of room to move about, I do hope places keep this as it’s much better not sitting nearly on other tables lap when eating!

It was busy with mummies and babies when we first arrived, which then moved onto the pensioners and cake crew. There was plenty of staff milling about and keeping busy. So all looked good.

Mama Foodie picked the quiche of the day, which was to be a surprise as we weren’t told what it was, and we didn’t ask either.  Mama Foodie likes a quiche so she would be happy with a surprise.  It was a cheese and tomato quiche served with a dressed salad and rather a lot of coleslaw.

A clean plate, well apart from some coleslaw as it was rather a lot.  The pastry was crisp with a firm eggy base which was chock full of tomato but some more cheese wouldn’t have gone amiss.

The fish finger sandwich was just what was needed.  Fluffy fish inside, crispy batter and smothered in tartare sauce.  Served with a dressed salad so not too bad for the pretend healthy eating.

A huge cup of filter coffee was quite strong for me,  however, I am not as good as Mr Foodie with coffee.

Clean, tidy and lots of space around to relax in.  The staff were friendly and did their job quickly.  Food was top and just enough for the time of day.  The cakes didn’t look too impressive today, so we decided not to have any and have a walk to the nearby waterfall instead.
