When Finney Blake is abducted by the serial killer than has been named The Grabber, he must use all of his wit to stay alive. The mysterious black phone in the basement keeps ringing and it’s the previous victims of the killer who all try and help him.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Black Phone manages to merge together the horror and thriller genres in quite a good fashion which was something I was certainly not expecting at all. It builds the tension in the best possible manner and that was one of the best things the film had going for it.
We cannot help but feel for Finney, seeing him builled at school and the only person who had been looking out for him is then taken by the Grabber. Something that means the bullying will start again, but when he is then also taken and having to come to terms with the death of his only friend whilst also fighting for his life was a tough aspect to be dealing with.
The suspense and tension built up with the Grabber suddenly appearing within the basement keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering if Finney can do enough to be able to escape and if his sister can get her visions/dreams in working order to find him.
Mason Thames was good in the leading role and we actually did care about what happened to his character. Ethan Hawke taking on the role of the Grabber was impressive as well.
