We've all heard those "I'm going after my dream" speeches but in reality, how many of us really do them? I've heard hundred of stories of those who have quit their 9-5 job and taken the leap to peruse their dreams. What are those dreams? They range from being a stay at home parent, traveling the world, starting up their own business in photography or food or whatever their passion is...the list is endless for many of us.
For me, I really never wanted that job. I've shared how being a SAHM wasn't for me a few years ago when we first moved to Atlanta. How I craved that social interaction. Yes, I was still blogging but I wasn't really sharing it with anyone. I was too nervous to bring it up to people and say "YES my job is blogging and no it's not you're glamorous but most of the biggest hustle! " And that's so true!
So here's what happen to me as the years have evolved. I started off when we moved to Atlanta just being a stay at home Mom with Lily at the time. I realized I was becoming depressed because blogging can be pretty lonely when you don't have a tribe or friends around you so I wanted to go back into the corporate world. I loved my job. I truly did. And then a few months ago, we found out we were able to move back to Chicago and life changed again.
But this time, I sat down and really talked to Zach about my ideas, on maybe being a SAHM again and taking this little blog of mine full time. I had started to make a little bit of money and heck, I have nothing to loose right?! So how do you get started on pursuing your own little dreams you're asking ( because I know that's why you probably came here in the first place! )
How Can You Start?
1. Create a Clear Plan- Find those who are doing exactly what you want to be doing and ask them what it took for them to get there. Ask some of these people to help you on your own person journey. Look into Facebook Groups. Look at your neighbors or social media. Reach out!
2. Set Small Goals and Track Your Progress - Do something little each day. Believe me, I get overwhelmed when trying to look a the bigger picture so starting small is key. The more frequently you work at your goals, the more energized and encouraged you'll be! Track your progress can help you maintain your focus on your dream. Believe me- you'll be distracted and get busy doing all sorts of other things that you'll forget! I always say "I CAN!" to believe in myself instead of negative thoughts like " I won't " or "I don't know how".
3. Prepare Yourself For Setbacks- Look, nothing comes for free and anyone that has ever gone after their dreams have experienced the pain and disappointment of rejection. I'm pretty sure J.K. Rowling had numerous rejections of "Harry Potter" before someone finally took her up on it! Be prepared to find a different route when that happens. Don't let setbacks destroy your dream but rather, let them motivate you to try even harder!
4. Help Others Find Their Dream - Nothing gives me more motivation than talking to YOU about your dreams. If you catch a vision for how you will be able to encourage and help others, you'll also find it easier to stay on track. If you bring meaning and a purpose into every situation that comes your way, it won't matter what your occupation is. Wherever you are and whatever you can do be is an opportunity to help bring life to every stranger you meet. It's one that we all pursue!
So where does that lead me right now at this moment? Well. I'm currently en route to head back to Chicago with my family and my first full week without a corporate job. We're actually taking this leap of faith and moving in with my parents while we build our home. WHAT?! Yes- it's crazy friends ha! So I'll be able to devote more time in the next few months to talking with all of you ( hey STORIES ) Am I loving it? You bet! Am I scared? Of course! I have all of you to help me out, keep me accountable and keep me going! #GirlBossesUnite over here on this little blog!
