The Big Moon have shared ‘It’s Easy Then’, their first new material since 2017’s Mercury Prize-nominated album ‘Love in the 4th Dimension’. The track is released ahead of tour dates supporting Pixies across the UK and Ireland.
Recorded in Atlanta with Grammy Award-winning US producer Ben H. Allen III (M.I.A//Deerhunter/Bombay Bicycle Club), The Big Moon’s vocalist and lyricist Juliette Jackson says the song is ‘about finding strength in strange times’ and about how our constantly busy lives and minds are always threatening to overwhelm. Juliette wanted to write a song that made her feel better while still capturing the frustrations of anxiety.
The quieter piano-led intro indicates a band exploring new territory as the sincere lyrics offer a glimpse into Juliette’s mindset: ‘I’m so bored of being capable. I need somewhere to be vulnerable’. The band then go on to give their thoughts on work-life balance (‘It feels like your work is never done, it feels like your work has just begun’) before pleading ‘just swallow me up’. The song then veers into a more psychedelic tone with elements of Grandaddy before finishing with repeats of ‘It’s easy then, you make it hard’.
