How to Reduce PDF Size on iPhone without Using a Third Party App
You should be able to manually compress PDF files on your iPhone and iPad for free. Two standard approaches are listed below.
Using the Files app
- Launch the Files app on your iPhone.
- Open the PDF file.
- Tap and hold on a PDF file.
- Choose Quick Actions → Optimize File Size.
Voila! Your reduced file size PDF will start mirroring in the same location as the original.
Also, if you want to compress multiple files at the same time, you can click on the three dots on the top right corner → Select → Select PDFs → click on the three dots on the bottom right corner → select "Optimize file size".
Using the iOS Shortcuts app
If it's not already installed, add Optimize PDF file size to the Shortcuts app on iPhone and iPad.
- Launch the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
- Click Optimize PDF File Size.
- Select a PDF to compress.
You can select multiple PDF files at the same time. - Select Open → Open.
The reduced size PDF will now start to be reflected in the original file location.
