When it comes to accessorizing, there is no better canvas to show off your jewels than a classic LBD. The little black dress is an iconic fashion must-have and while it can be incredibly simple, designers have turned this wardrobe staple into one of the most stylish pieces we see on the red carpets and magazine pages alike. New silhouettes, textures, and lengths all create the allure of the modern LBD. Whether your style is edgy, glamorous, minimal or extreme, there is definitely an LBD out there for you.

Now while there may have been a trend of celebrities under-accessorized this past year (what a shame!), we still cannot deny that we saw some spectacular LBD’s in 2011. Every year numerous magazines and blogs come out with their list of the best LBD’s of the year, and we thought we’d make our own list too! Whether simple and understated or accessorized to perfection, these stars made a statement that goes to show the LBD will always and forever be the most elegant and fashionable option out there.

#5- Taylor Swift

Making her debut as a Covergirl, Taylor Swift went for the ultimate chic! Her LBD by Badgley Mischka has just the right amount of sparkle to make simple stunning. The flouncy skirt and sweetheart neckline make it youthful yet sophisticated. Paired with her signature red pout this is one knockout look!

#4- Olivia Wilde

Black is always sultry, but Olivia Wilde took the color to a whole new level and made it more exciting than ever. Her Cushnie et Ochs cut out dress was a great fit for her and would be for any modern trend setter. More fashion forward than classic, this little number is begging for a killer pair of shoes to really top it off!

#3- Emma Stone

I have to give Emma Stone the award for best dressed of 2011. The girl never once failed to impress on the red carpet and always managed to keep her looks fresh and unexpected, yet still true to her style. One of my favorite looks of hers was the black lace Tom Ford dress she wore to the premiere of Crazy, Stupid Love. The unique silhouette is so avant-garde yet she still managed to evoke old Hollywood glamour.

#2- Hailee Steinfeld

This young fashionista keeps proving herself as the up and coming star on the red carpet! Hailee Steinfeld knew just how to dress up her caped black dress by Maje by styling it with some fierce leopard wedges and a metallic copper clutch. This LBD is modern and funky yet still would work on women of any age. A definite favorite!

#1- Jennifer Aniston

LBD Jennifer AnnistonThe Best of the LBDs in 2011
Personally I have been on the lookout for a dress like this since I saw Jennifer Aniston rock this Celine leather mini in London this past July. The leather and short cut make it edgy, but the pockets and high neckline give it just enough of a sweet quality so that you don’t look like a punk rock rebel. In true LBD form, it is simple but the accessorizing options are endless!

Who had some of your favorite LBD red carpet moments? When it comes to a classic little black dress, do you prefer simple and sleek or creative and chic?
