The British capital became the center of men’s fashion for a few days last week, as designers showcased their spring-summer 2015 collections at London Collections: Men.
The three days of presentations and fashion shows brought a lot of new ideas, concepts, cuts, shapes and inspiration to take in for the spring-summer 2015 season. The garments were of course crafted with amazing attention and craftsmanship and we could see everything from neutral colors, to bold shades of red, yellow or blue, and from slim-tailored suits to extremely loose pieces. Sometimes the pieces were so loose, the model was almost invisible. Now if that’s not a fashion statement, what is?
Overall, it looks like the designers who presented their clothes at LCM SS 2015 wanted to show that men can and should enjoy crazy designs just as much as women. We could see very colorful pieces and we’re wondering whether the 2015 summer will indeed be a very colorful one for men. Highly-saturated colors and fancy accessories seem to be the hits of the season, mixed with references from the arts and history.
It is hard to characterize an entire event and to generalize what was presented, but we can say that the main elements that present at this June’s event were daring fabrics, unconventional silhouettes and a desire to be ostentatious and loud. There were so many colors, messages and crazy cuts presented, that one might actually wonder how these will be interpreted by the mainstream and how regular people will incorporate these elements in their wardrobes. Of course, the creations are very useful as inspiration; we think that any man can use them as inspiration, especially in terms of mixing colors. We really liked how various designers used colors for this season’s collections.
The new collections also brought technological innovations in the spotlight, Pringle of Scotland using a 3D printer to help finish their designs, which made fashion step into a new era of technology. A 3D printer was used to incorporate ladders into the cable detail. Technology is always a factor that creates new means of artistic and creative expression.
Apparently, it seems that even though some designers opted for tailored looks, boxy cuts are a regular these days among men’s fashion designers who very often turned to this type of tailoring for their creations.

Moschino made a strong statement against fakes with items such as this jacket.
The Oliver Spencer creations were an interesting combination of traditional tailoring and contemporary fashion, resulting in an original collection of pieces that balanced strong shades and neutral colors.
The new looks from Orlebar Brown were summer essentials presented in amazing colors, which we liked very much.
The Desert Rats, or the British soldiers who served in North Africa during World War II were the inspiration for this collection, which used military standards and adapting them for civilian wear.
The Xander Zhou ss 2015 collection was inspired by Star Wars and featured a lot of overseized items, such as this jacket and the pants presented here. We are not crazy about the oversized pieces, but the colors are really a great source of inspiration!
The Burberry Prorsum collection was an amazing display of great color combinations. We really liked the combinations for their subtlety and learned a lot from them!
Baseball was the inspiration for the spring-summer 2015 DKNY menswear collection, featuring baseball shirts and pleated pants.
For E. Tautz creative director Patrick Grant, the ss 2015 collection was all about extreme relaxation: the collection featured many boxy pieces, fluid and oversized silhouettes, as his inspiration were Tony Ray-Jones’s photographs on leisure by the sea.
Gieves and Hawkes’s after-hours look was expressed through timeless creations made from luxurious fabrics in accessible, toned down neutral colors.
Jeremy Hackett’s looks were some of our favorites from this season’s LCM. They were a mix of patterns, colors and styles, resulting in amazing rugby or cricket outfits for men to wear during the summer.
This fabulous Hackett outfit goes to show how you can easily mix neutral pieces with highly-saturated colors for great effects. The suit is neutral buy shiny, while the accessories are bolder (and the tie is shinier) and make the outfit stand out.
Jonathan Saunders showcased boxy clothes that alternated strong patterns with muted colors, resulting in a contrasting outcome.
Kent & Curwen’s creative director Simon Spurr put a new spin on military clothes, transforming them into works of art.
Mixing references and styles, Kent and Curwen’s collection was an impressive demonstration of a refined contemporary style, by adding moto-motifs, military elements and 1980s items in their creations.
Slim silhouettes were one of the main staples of the Kent and Curwen Spring-Summer 2015 collection, as well as bold colors and surprising accessories.
For their collection, KTZ saw gladiators from a new perspective, mixing bold cuts with tribal prints. The results were voluminous outerwear perfect for a hot summer.
Margaret Howell’s creation were a mix of military items and a relaxed look in neutral colors. What we can learn from this outfit is that if you wear an oversized piece such as this suit, it still needs to fits. This might sound like an oxymoron, but you can see whether a piece that is oversized by design fits by checking the length of the sleeves and of the pants.
Moschino presented a collection of extremely colorful sporty street wear, making appeal to pop art and the brand’s early collections.
Tiger of Sweden, a Scandinavian brand played with classic pieces giving them a more refined, contemporary and youthful look. We really like this sleeveless shirt. It also seems like some fashion rules never change: your belt should match your shoes.
