I am neither monster nor man-yet I am both.

The Beast’s Heart by @leioss

I am the Beast.

The day I was cursed to this wretched existence was the day I was saved-although it did not feel so at the time.

My redemption sprung from contemptible roots; I am not proud of what I did the day her father happened upon my crumbling, isolated chateau. But if loneliness breeds desperation then I was desperate indeed, and I did what I felt I must. My shameful behaviour was unjustly rewarded.

My Isabeau. She opened my eyes, my mind and my heart; she taught me how to be human again.

And now I might lose her forever.

I must confess - I'm only aware of the Beauty and the Beast story via the Disney movie. I know the shame of it! My love for this movie is the reason I bought this book in the first place. This is very different from the movie, though that's probably obvious. The Beast's Heart is a treat. I loved it, absolutely adored every page of it. This is a timeless tale of love. What's not to get all mushy about? I loved the fact the Beast is the narrator. I love first person narrator's when they're well written and The Beast's Heart ticks every box. I rooted for Beast from the first page, hoping Isabea's (weird name) would see beyond his looks. Isn't that what love is about - seeing the truth about someone? Isabeau's family are very different from the movie and I thought they were great. The Beast's Heart is an amazing book!
