To the delight of 80s and 90s kids around the world, Netflix announced last year its plans to transform Ann M. Martinis beloved Baby Sitters Club book franchise in a family television series.

Even if the books have been adapted for the screen before - via an ephemeral series in 1990 and a feature film in 1995 - the streaming giant hopes to share the adventures of Kristy Thomas, Mary-Ann Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill and Dawn Schafer with a whole new generation.

To get the scoop on what is dedicated Baby Sitters Club fans and newcomers to the teenage world of Stoneybrook, Connecticut can expect the Netflix adaptation, Good Housekeeping spoke to Alicia Silverstone, who plays Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer (aka Kristy's mother) in the new series.

Based on our convo with Alicia and the gathering of information on the Internet, here is what we know the Baby Sitters Club reboot on Netflix:

What will The Baby-Sitters Club wear on?

In summary, contemporary drama will champion friendship, women's empowerment and entrepreneurship, as well as the heavier issues facing teens, including parental divorce and racism.

Speaking of a particular plot, Alicia reveals that due to the love interest of her character, Watson Brewer (to be played by Mark Feuerstein), Elizabeth will go through a period from top to bottom with Kristy.

"My character is a single mother of four. It's a lot. Three of them are boys. So she has a lot to do and she doesn't have a lot of money and she's just trying to do it" , Alicia explains. "And then there is Kristy, and Kristy watched her mom become a strong woman. So now that this man comes into her life, it really bothers Kristy's head."

While this scenario will be covered in the series, Alicia specifies that the focus will not be on adults, but rather on the dynamics between adolescents (just like the books wanted).

"The adult characters really support the characters," she says. "This show is about these five girls trying to figure this stuff out, you know? Finding themselves ... all the juicy stuff."

The main cast includes Sophie Grace (Kristy Thomas), Malia Baker (Mary Ann Spier), Momona Tamada (Claudia Kishi), Shay Rudolph (Stacey McGill), and Xochitl Gomez (Dawn Schafer).

Regarding Kristy in particular, Alicia explains that people can expect the same nails-like leader in books to come to life on screen.

"She's really strong and really powerful and really smart and kind. She's a wonderful character, Kristy," says Alicia. "And she's so good at assuming responsibility and taking ownership, and she's a control freak. And she learns that she can't be in control all the time, which is hard for us to learn all."
