The Audacity of Hope by @BarackObama

By Pamelascott

The Audacity of Hope is Barack Obama's call for a new kind of politics - a politics that builds upon those shared understandings that pull us together as Americans. Lucid in his vision of American's place in the world, refreshingly candid about his family life and his time in the Senate, Obama here sets out his political convictions and inspires us to trust in the dogged optimism that has long defined us and that is our best hope going forward.

I don't really read books about politics or politicians but had little choice for this Popsugar category. The only politician I feel is worth my time is Obama so choosing this book was a no brainer for me. I certainly have no time for the nonsense spewing out of the mouth of UK politicians. Some of the book is preachy at times and contains a lot of detail about American politics which went a little over my head I must admit. For the most part though, this is a very accessible and readable book. It's clear how much Obama loves his country, as fucked up as it is at times. It's also clear how passionate he is about making America better and helping people, for example people in minimum wages jobs that live in poverty. This book also made me incredibly sad. American had Obama as a president, a man who clearly loves his country and wants to help people and chose a cartoonish racist piece of shit like Trump as the next president. I really can't get my head around that.
