The Art of Being Fearless

Some notes on the idea of fearlessness.
“To me, Fearless is not the absense of fear. It’s not being completely unafraid. To me, Fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death.” - Taylor Swift

Being fearless isn’t about not being afraid. It’s about having fears and doing things anyway. I bloody love Taylor Swift. From the moment I heard those words back in 2008, I’ve tried to live by them.
By nature I’m timid, shy, introverted and, well, fearful. Because going hand in hand with my timidity, shyness and introversion comes a lack of confidence or a passive semblance of confidence. Actually though, I’ve realised I am confident; I’m capable of far much more than you or even I could imagine. It just took a stroke of fearlessness to realize that.
You often read in the media, hear on the streets or tell each other to take and savour every moment as it comes. Relish it because you don’t know how long it’ll last or whether that moment will come again. Happiness and contentment can be fleeting. It’s fearless to have fears and lots of them, yet coming out on top everyday despite them. It’s fearless to be terrified of telling someone how you feel but doing so because you never know what’ll happen next. It’s fearless to trust your instincts and your gut - yes, really - because not one person on this planet knows you better than yourself. It’s fearless to pore over your blog every evening, letting thoughts, opinions, talent and skill touch the screen and be shared all around the world. It’s fearless to spend your Friday night cosied at home with a cup of tea (and two sugars) because you’ve pushed yourself every single day that week and you deserve it, lady. It’s fearless to leap out of your comfort zone and attend your very first blog event alone.
Every day it’s a good thing to take a moment and remind yourself to be fearless. You can be everything you want to be and do everything you want to do. Fearlessness doesn’t be going all out and doing crazy, reckless things, it can be as simple as talking to someone, not talking to anyone, going for a 5k run, popping the A/C on and practicing yoga for an hour.
Choose fearless. (:
