Story: The American King starts as an American hustler Sebastian (Akon) gets a visit from a mysterious Priestess (Ikpe-Etim) who claims he is African royalty. Once Sebastian sees this could be real and not just a prank by his friends, he takes up the offer to become king.

Sebastian will find himself needing to adapt to the new culture, while also looking to use his own newly found power to help change the country to become more open to change, but the CIA are investigating the change that has taken place in the country.

Thoughts on The American King

ThoughtsThe American King is a comedy that will play out in a similar vein as Coming to America, showing an unexpected royalty member needing to adapt to a new life. When it comes to the change in Sebastian’s life, we see how he is willing to adapt to the leadership thrown upon him, showing us how a fresh pair of eyes can see change. Having two different governments looking to make a statement about the change, shows how important learning about history can be, instead of only worrying about greed. Seeing musician Akon in the leading role is strange, as I have never known him as an actor, but he does a good job, bring his music along to the soundtrack. The comedy in the film does work, with plenty being the reactions for being in a different cultures. The American King will work as a fun comedy, while having a bigger message involved it too.

Final Thoughts The American King is an enjoyable comedy.
