Peter Parker is in high school and living with his aunt and uncle after a night his parents had to suddenly leave. He is never really told anything about why they had to disappear and one day he finds a clue which leads him to Dr. Curt Connors.
Not only does Peter have to deal with finding out about the man his father worked with, but also that they were friends. He must deal with being a teenager in high school, his feelings towards Gwen and the absence of his mother and father. I thought the way in which he got the spider bite was very well done. Looking around and being somewhere he shouldn’t have been with all different spiders.
I thought Andrew Garfield was a very good choice to aim this film at a younger generation and have them really relate to him. I just loved the new take on it all, a good idea for the reboot of the franchise. I thought Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Uncle Ben and Aunt Mary were brilliant choices for those roles. Such well-respected and well-known actors. I thought the film was very fun and that Andrew Garfield really made the character his own totally different to what we saw in the previous Spider-Man films. This is a good thing, it felt younger and would appeal to more people.
The scenes between Spider-Man and The Lizard were very well worked and good fight scenes. Although at times The Lizard would make me laugh as I just thought it looked rather funny! That doesn’t really make a big impact just every now and then. We are left with many different plots open with the big possibility of a second film. (But that seems to be the case with most comic book movies).
I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy this film as much as I did! Went in not expecting too much and I guess that was a good thing in the end. I would very much welcome a second installment to the reboot of Spider-Man!
