The 2021 US Open Approaches Its Final Stage

By Jen Campbell @TennisLife_Mag

With the 2021 US Open acting as the fourth of four annual Grand Slam events, it offers one final opportunity for the best in the sport to win big and when it comes to 2021, nobody has won bigger so far than Novak Djokovic.

Although the Serbian star was denied an opportunity at winning a 'Golden Slam', after failure to land a gold medal at the recent Tokyo Olympics, he has mopped up everything that has gone before him in terms of top tier tennis events.

Going into this year's US Open, Djokovic has already won the Australian and French tournaments of the same name. In addition to his previous efforts in the first half of the year, he has also added another Wimbledon crown to his name.

Will Djokovic Achieve A 2021 Calendar Slam?

The 34-year-old is now aiming to tie up the fourth and final Grand Slam of 2021 at Flushing Meadows. In doing so, he would join a very elite band of aces who have won the lot in a single calendar year.

Critics will argue that his path at Flushing Meadows has been made easier by a considerable number of high-profile withdrawals. Although that may be strictly true, Djokovic can only beat what is put in front of him.

Something he has done with relative ease up until now and with a Semi-final berth now secured, the Belgrade born legend has made light work of all those who have dared to stand between himself and glory.

Glory that would only further lend him to sporting immortality and for those who are looking to place a wager on who will win this year's edition of the US Open, backing Djokovic may be the smartest bet you place this weekend.

As all the top sports betting sites cover the ATP, you will not be short of potential online sportsbooks to put your money where your mouth is. Should you back the Serbian, then that money could well become profitable in just a few days.

On the way to the final four, it has almost been one-way traffic in terms of on-court prowess. With only a handful of dropped sets along the way, it is fair to say that the man in question has hardly broken a sweat.

After making rather light work of qualifier Holger Rune in the opening round, he made even lighter work of Tallon Griekspoor, as the Dutchman lost in straight sets. From there, Kei Nishikori was the next player to knocked over by the tennis juggernaut.

At this point it was a pairing with wildcard Jenson Brooksby which followed. Although the American managed to snare the opening set for himself, it only served to awaken the talent of a man who has won this tournament three times already.

Of course, one cannot forget that he is also an eight-time finalist at Flushing Meadows. To make the showpiece event on so many occasions suggests that this is someone who is genuinely the real deal.

Djokovic Is The Real Deal At 2021 US Open

The deal has certainly been made easier by the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer being injured this year. It was a rather easy showing in the Quarterfinals, as Matteo Berretini was bested in four sets.

Once again, it was a case of handing the first set to his opponent - if only to create some sense of jeopardy. Although the sixth seed Berrettini started brightly, his star seemingly burned out far too quickly.

With the 25-year-old disposed, it now means the Semi-finalists have been decided, as the next man to lie in wait is none other than Alexander Zverev. With the German brushing past Lloyd Harris in the previous round, this will certainly be an interesting matchup.

Zverev was granted the fourth seed for this year's edition of the tournament, and this will certainly be Djokovic's toughest test to date. Then again, if the form book is adhered to in both Semi-finals, a titanic matchup awaits in the final itself.

One that will see the top two seeds go head-to-head and if anyone else can come out on top, it can only be Daniil Medvedev, and he will have to bring his a-game should he clinch a spot in the final. However, even his a-game might not be enough to stop the fearsome Djokovic in 2021.
