That Red Lip, Classic Thing

Daisybutter - Hong Kong Lifestyle and Fashion Blog: red lip recommendations for asian complexion

A cliché title for a post about my 5 favorite bold lips for SS15. I bloody love Taylor Swift. It’s hard to think that once upon a time, a red lip wasn’t a thing in my beauty bounty. Moreover, anything close to being a bold lip was certainly out of the question. And then along came YOU guys and Taylor Swift. For me it was a confidence issue as well as the fact that I continue to be terrible at makeup application! However, after I picked up first ever bold lip in the form of Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar, it was a one-way ticket to ‘my face is now naked without red/pink’.
Without further ado, here are my favorite springtime-appropriate bright lip companions:
Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar (unpictured because I can't find it, SOS!) - Let’s start with the one that kickstarted the craze. I picked this up on a whim whilst waiting for Kristabel before dinner and, quite frankly, I was terrified of it. It sat in my handbag until ever-enabling Kbel willed me to put it on and the rest is history. I’m sure you’ve heard the praises of Rimmel Apocalips already but I simply love the color range, lasting power and glossy finish. I rarely go for a glossy finish (too messy) but this is perfect, even when blotted down a touch.
CHANEL Rouge Allure in Gabrielle – Hi I’m Michelle and bloggers are a bad influence. Aisling practically pinned me down and made me hand my card over with this purchase. A more orange-toned red, this is my ‘I’m a serious woman’ red that I crack out in the evening. However I find this difficult to wear unless I’ve gone for something cool and pale on my eyes and I usually opt for a champagne or gold hue…
YSL Kiss & Blush in 5 – This lip/cheek hybrid stain is always in my handbag. One of those cult community products, I genuinely ‘get’ the hype. It applies effortlessly with the inverted doe foot applicator and No.5 is the ideal pinkish bright red for day and night wear. It’s certainly more of a stain and I’m yet to try it on my cheeks but on the lips? Perfect.
Etude House Dear My Wish in PK021 – Not red but a favorite bold lip regardless, this is my current favorite date night lipstick. It’s a beautiful cerise hot pink with a glossy finish that I’m obsessed with. Etude House are seriously SO good for lip products. This one tends to slip a tiny bit but I can oversee that as it’s the kind of bright pink that works ridiculously well as a gradient lip.
Rimmel Kate Moss Matte in 111 – And last but not least, the game-changer in my beauty arsenal. Nine times out of ten, if you’ve asked me which red lip I’m wearing on Instagram, it’s this one. A true post-box red that flatters everyone with a classic matte finish, I find this to be stupidly photogenic and it lifts the complexion too. Having a bad day? This will mask everything. Having a good day? This will make you feel like [insert favorite celebrity of choice].
