After an update earlier this year, the Teslas with the "Full self-driving ability" Package too Stop to see red lightsthe automaker has introduced the latest addition to Autopilotgrowing list of technologies. The system now recognizes green traffic lights and can notify the driver when a traffic signal changes from red to green.
According to the release notes after the update last Saturday, the "green light" will sound once to prompt the driver to continue. Note that the car does not move on its own. If there is a car in front of you, the carillon will sound as soon as the vehicle in front starts moving. If the traffic light and stop sign control is activated, the drivers must also confirm that they want to pass the intersection. Here, too, the car will never take matters into its own hands. These tools remain rather experimental driver assistance functions and do not create a self-driving car.

However, the latest update warns of more than just the green light. The latest software also adds a warning when using Autosteer when the system detects that the driver may be passing an intersection. Tesla warns, "This is not a substitute for a careful driver and will not stop the car." And Teslas will now use its cameras to identify speed limit signs for more accurate speed limit data.
So far, the improvements are a long way from CEO Elon Musk's vision of essentially letting Teslas run around on its own. Musk said by the end of 2020, owners could run their Teslas around as autonomous taxis, potentially generating income. While the progress is impressive, we are certainly nowhere near such a scenario.
