Hundreds of persons living with disabilities in Oyo State on Monday morning expressed their displeasure over shortlisting of names for the teaching recruitment of the state Post Secondary School Teaching Service Commission TESCOM.
The protesters, according to Mega Icon, locked all the entrance gates to the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, denying workers and others access to the premises.
The protest has not only crippled the business of governance but also triggered traffic congestion around Bodija, Mokola and Agodi axis of Ibadan.
They claimed that most of their members with genuine certificates were declined opportunities in the on-going recruitment exercise as against the promise earlier made by the state government.
According to the protesters, they are more vulnerable to poverty and disaster, declaring that the list of successful candidates allocated to persons with disability is fake.
They, however appealed to Governor Makinde to come to the aid of persons with disability by ensuring that the anomaly was addressed.
Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier given a directive to the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) to recruit no fewer than 7,000 teachers; 2,000 non-teaching staff and 1,600 night guards. The government also promised to ensure all vulnerable and people with disabilities are captured in the exercise.
