Terrapin to Release Third Brew in Reserve Series

By Marc Wisdom @JaxBeerGuy

Terrapin-Imperial-Pumpkin-Pie-PorterIt seems like every year pumpkin beers come out earlier and earlier. Last week Southern Tier became available in the Jacksonville area, but the brewery released the beer, at least to some areas, on June 30. Next week another brewery will begin shipping their pumpkin brew to distributors. The Athens, Ga. craft brewing powerhouse Terrapin will release Imperial Pumpkin Pie Porter.

The beer joins White Chocolate Moo-Hoo and Cinnamon Roll’d Wake-n-Bake as the third of the brewery’s Reserve Series small batch brews. This take on pumpkin beers is made with seven different grains including chocolate wheat and chocolate malt, two different hops – Golding and Columbus – spices like cinnamon, ginger, allspice and cloves and, of course, pumpkin.

Terrapin has long been known to push the brewing envelope with its creations from the fertile mind of head brewer Spike Buckowski. This newest creation brings the pumpkin beer to a new high by pushing the ABV out to 9.2%. The Imperial pumpkin beer joins Terrapin’s legacy seasonal Pumpkinfest, a lower alcohol beer that incorporates elements of both a German-style Oktoberfest beer and a traditional pumpkin brew.

If the sales garnered by the brewery on the first two releases in their reserve series are any indication of how Imperial Pumpkin Pie Stout will sell, plan on grabbing a bottle of this as soon as it hit the shelves. Both White Chocolate Moo-Hoo and Cinnamon Roll’d Wake-n-Bake sold out in record time.
