The official tenure of 340 local government institutions is going to end on 18 March midnight. Only the Elpitiya local council will be operational until next October.
A discussion related to controlling local government bodies under municipal commissioners, provincial commissioners and secretaries was held recently under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
It is also not clear whether the LG elections can be conducted on 25 April as scheduled due to multiple uncertainties.
