Ten persons have been arrested on the charges of damaging and burning houses and other properties of Galle District MP Chandima Weerakkody, Bope Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Dilruk Abeykoon, Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Anura Narangoda and Hikkaduwa Urban Councillor S.S. Sunil Chamara, by the Galle and Rathgama Police.
The suspects were arrested by the Galle Divisional Crime Investigation Division with the assistance of the Waduramba, Poddala and Rathgama Police. Accordingly two suspects each have been arrested for setting fire to the house of Chandima Weerakkody and damaging the house of Bope Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Dilruk Abeykoon.
In addition, one person has been arrested for damaging the house of Hikkaduwa Municipal Councillor Sunil Chamara. The suspects were arrested after examining video evidence and CCTV footage, police said.
