Having just enjoyed watching the new Avengers: Endgame I started to think about superpowers and got wondering if there are any real animals with them. What I discovered both shocked me and amazed me, so I hope these ten amazing animal superpowers will do the same for you...
The Touch of Death - Poison Dart Frog
You don't have to eat it, you don't have to get its blood into your system. You just have to touch this frog and you could be dead before you know it. It is no wonder local tribespeople use the poison from this frog to hunt and kill food.
Speed Punch - Mantis Shrimp
The Mantis shrimp can punch faster than a speeding bullet in order to catch its food. In fact, it is so fast it makes shockwaves in the water! OK, so those shockwaves are really small and only really result in tiny bubbles forming as the air is pushed out of the water. But if it was the size of a human it would cause massive destruction!
Super Speed - Peregrine Falcon
As we saw in my post " The Top 10 Fastest Animals in the Air" it is the fastest animal in the world and when you compare its top speed achieved by a human which was 44.72km/h (27.8 mph) by Usain Bolt it's very fast indeed.
Immortality - The Immortal Jellyfish
If you think immortality is little more than an impossible dream you might want to tell that to the Turritopsis dohrnii (who is otherwise known as the Immortal Jellyfish) As soon as these jellyfish start to get old they then transform themselves back into their juvenile state! Then simply start growing old again.
Hidden Attack Claws - The Horror Frog
If you think Wolverine is the only person who can push hidden claws out of their skin you would be wrong. When threatened the horror frog breaks the bones in its toes and pushes them out of its skin to attack with. Now that is one impressive trick!
Acid Spitting - The Greek Rock Lizard
If being able to climb rocks that are inclined wasn't enough this lizard can spit out acid to warn off and even burn its enemies. It sounds more of a bad-guy power to me, but it is still amazing.
Electric Shocks - Electric Eel
I think this is the most well known of the superpower animals and it is still impressive once you learn it can shoot out up to 860 volts at a time. Sure, it's only for two milliseconds but it can still hurt a human, let alone another animal.
Sonic Punch - Pistol Shrimp
If you think you have seen some boxers with a fast punch they are nothing when compared to the pistol shrimp. It can snap its claw so quickly it creates a sonic blast that has been measured at 218 decibels, hence the pistol name.
Super Strength - Dung Beetle
It might only be small, but a dung beetle can push or pull over 1,000 times its own body weight! In human terms, you would be able to push a whole train out of the station!
Mimic Camouflage - Cuttlefish
There are lots of animals that have abilities to camouflage themselves, but not like the cuttlefish that has been known to not only blend into multicolour backgrounds but also mimic the shape of rocks and plants in order to hide to hunt for their food. Mystique eat your heart out!
