Ten of the Worlds Highest Observation Decks and Where to Find Them

By Russell Deasley @Worlds_Top_10

While for the most part, this list of the worlds tallest observation decks does follow the list of the worlds tallest buildings, it is still pretty interesting with one or two surprise entries thrown in for good measure. If you have a head for heights you might want to look away now...

Ten of the Worlds Highest Observation Decks and Where to Find Them

10 - Taipei 101 in United Arab Emirates - Height Above Ground: 391.6 m (1,284 ft)

Not only is there an observation deck on the 89th floor with pretty impressive 360° views of Taipei city, but there is also a museum on that deck where you can learn all about the building from its concept to competition.

9 - Sky100 in Hong Kong - Height Above Ground: 393 m (1,289 ft)

Located on the 100th floor is one of Hong-Kong's top tourist attractions and offers some of the best views of Hong Kong you can see anywhere in the city.

8 - Willis Tower in United States - Height Above Ground: 412.7 (1,354 ft)

Located on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower there are not just some impressive views to be had, for the fearless amongst us there is a glass balcony that extends 4 feet outside of the building!

7 - CN Tower in Canada - Height Above Ground: 446.5 m (1,464.9 ft)

This observation deck is currently being renovated (after all it was built in 1973) and the new upgrade will include a full food court as well as some "exhilarating experiences" for some brave visitors (whatever that might be).

6 - Tokyo Skytree in Japan - Height Above Ground: 451.2 m (1,480 ft)

With a stunning 360° view overlooking Tokyo, it is a very spacious floor with great views, a cafe and even a nice restaurant!

5 - Shanghai World Financial Center in China - Height Above Ground: 474 m (1,555 ft)

While most of the floors of this building are taken up with office space the observation deck is still surprisingly open to the public with all the usual tourist things like a cafe and loads of useful information boards.

4 - Lotte World Tower in South Korea - Height Above Ground: 486 m (1,594 ft)

Whats most impressive about this viewing deck it is two-story-high glass windows for some of the most open and impressive views you will see in the whole of South Korea. Some say its such a good view you can see North Korea from it! (although that is simply not true).

3 - Canton Tower in China - Height Above Ground: 488 m (1,601 ft)

This is the tallest TV tower in the world and if the view from it wasn't impressive enough there are observation pods that run along the outside of it for some truly scary views.

2 - Burj Khalifa in United Arab Emirates - Height Above Ground: 555 m (1,820 ft)

This is the highest outdoor observatory in the world and features views that would make a mountain climber pass-out. So it's a good thing there are plenty of refreshment stops on the same floor.

1 - Shanghai Tower in China - Height Above Ground: 583 m (1,912 ft)

Located head and shoulders above the rest is the tallest building in China and the 2nd tallest building in the whole world! With wonderful high view windows, it is almost impossible to make out people moving down below because they look so small!
