Ten E-commerce Businesses Success Stories That Inspire

E-C0mmerce companies – gaming developers and casinos like Vulkan Vegas are a source of inspiration to many. From tiny beginnings, these companies managed to grow their businesses into an empire — so much so that they became household names.

E-commerce has revolutionised how we shop and conduct business in the digital age. With the rise of online marketplaces and advancements in technology, entrepreneurs have found unprecedented opportunities to reach a global audience and build thriving businesses. In this article, we showcase ten remarkable e-commerce success stories that serve as a source of inspiration and learning for aspiring entrepreneurs.

1. Beardbrand

BeardBrand is a company that sells products for beards. It is an independent company, meaning it has never received any funding from investors.

What makes it interesting? There is a cliché that beards are unclean. The founder, Eric Bandholz, was in a state of loss. He took a significant risk and grew his beard, even if society believed that beards were unprofessional.

Eric used to work as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, which meant he had a lot of money. He disapproved of the company’s no facial hair policy, so he left.

It was during this period that he had an epiphany. He realised how to groom his beard, and this eventually morphed into an idea to create products related to beard grooming. Now, the company sells not only products for grooming beards but also for hair and body.

Here is a list of the items they sell:

  • Fragrances
  • Soap
  • Aftershave
  • Shaving cream
  • Utility wash
  • Beard softener
  • Moustache wax

People who want to save money have the option to make bundle purchases. These bundles are like value meals in restaurants where you can buy several products in one package but pay a low price.

Their company has grown so big that they got featured on other websites and shows like Shark Tank, Men’s Health, Forbes, GQ, etc. Today, Beardbrand is one of the leading men’s grooming companies in the United States. Based in Texas, the company is nearing its tenth anniversary.

2. Dollar Shave Club

Dollar Shave is known for its crazy antics in its commercials. Notably, Dollar Shave spent $4,500 on its first ad, which rapidly boosted its sales. It is this advertisement that catapulted the brand into a household name.

The Dollar Shave Club is a company that sends its customers a shaving kit regularly if the person subscribes for a dollar a month. They do not shy away from unconventional marketing and even use cuss words in their ads.

The company grew with its share of controversies. In 2015, Gilette filed a lawsuit against Dollar Shave for patent infringement. Gilette, through its parent company, Procter and Gamble, said that the Dollar Shave Club used its formal to create similar blades. The lawsuit ended in a settlement.

The founders of the Dollar Shave Club are Mark Levine and Michael Dublin. They met at a party, and both shared the same sentiment about expensive razor blades. They had an idea and used their money to create the business. They also sought the help of the start-up incubator Science, Inc.

They founded the company in 2011. It was not until 2012, when they launched their viral ad called Our Blades Are F***ing Great, that they saw success.

3. Spanx

Last on our list is an underwear company that started from the frustration of its founder. The company has been around since 2010. Initially, the company only sold underwear for women. Now, they also sell underwear for men.

The founder of the company is Sara Blakely. She used to sell fax machines in Florida and was unable to find pantyhose that did not have seamed toes. She also had problems finding pantyhoses that did not roll up the leg.

She only had $5,000 at that time and was only 27 years old. She did her research and created an original concept. She later succeeded in creating a prototype and convinced her friends to try her garments.

One thing she discovered was that companies were using the same waistband sizes for all pantyhose and only used rubber cords to expand these waistbands. She saw this loophole and created pantyhoses that had different waistband sizes. Because of this minor change, she managed to create various pantyhoses that fit many people.

She later submitted a patent and received one. She also used red as a brand color to indicate boldness. Most female hosiery companies used beige. Her brand became a success and continues to inspire women today.

Entrepreneurial success is challenging, especially if you are new to the field. You will lose yourself in the competition and might feel frustrated for not getting any sales. Like any business, e-Commerce is a real business that has its set of problems. You must have the grit to solve these problems individually until you get it right. Only then will you start seeing movements in your business toward success.
