Telling Tales by @AnnCleeves

By Pamelascott

Ten years after Jeanie Long was charged with the murder of fifteen-year-old Abigail Mantel, disturbing new evidence proving her innocence emerges in the East Yorkshire village of Elvet. Abigail's killer is still at large.

For Emma Bennett, the revelation brings back haunting memories of her vibrant best friend - and of the fearful winter's day when she had discovered her body lying cold in a ditch.

Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope makes fresh inquiries, and the villagers are hauled back to a time they would rather forget. Tensions begin to mount, but are people afraid of the killer, or of their own guilty pasts?

Another great Vera book from my new favourite author! I was familiar with this book because it's been adapted as an episode of the TV series but I saw it a while ago so there was a lot I didn't remember. I really liked the plot with Vera and her team investigating an old case that's been reopened after new evidence comes to light that may have exonerated a convicted murderer, after the convicted killer committed suicide, of course. Vera becomes a bit more real in this book with more access to her thoughts, feelings and some hints at her past. She's starting to take shape. Vera is convinced a recent murder is linked to her case and is furious when she can't investigate both cases because there's no evidence of any link. As usual, I had no idea who the killer was and was shocked when Vera reveals the murderer.
