Television Tuesday - Bates Motel(Norman and Norma 'Mother' Bates)
Hi there lovelies and welcome back to another Television Tuesday. This week's feature is Bates Motel, the TV series that serves as a (sort of) prequel to the legendary film and novel, Psycho.
The series premiered 18th March in the US and so far we are two episodes in and things are already starting to look pretty darn crazy. As I mentioned earlier I currently don't know where this series will stand chronologically within the Psycho franchise as its obviously set before the first movie but the time frame has been established as modern day, it was pretty funny to see Norman Bates (all be it a teenage version who's played tremendously by Freddie Highmore) whipping out his iPhone, just the idea of Anothney Perkins' Bates trying to work his way around an iPhone makes me chuckle.
If you've seen the Hitchcock directed film then you no doubt have a good idea about what's to come later in the series and even where we're enevatibly going to end up, but for all of you who haven't here's a short brief:
The series follows a teenage Norman Bates and his overly protective Mother, Norma (played by Vera Farmiga) as they move from their home after the sudden death of Norman's father to the town of White Pine Bay, a remote costal town in Oregon where Mrs. Bates purchases a motel in the hope that she and her son can start a new life.
Despite being this early into the series I can tell that this is going to be a new hit show as despite its label as a "Horror Show" there is a lot of depth and mystery in there too which is a real winner when you consider that ninety-nine percent of the people tuning in are aware of the events that are set to unfold in the long run. Even if you aren't that keen of the movies themselves I'd still recommend that you give this a go, it has a very American Horror Story type vibe to it and if horror isn't your cup of tea then stay for the twists and turns and what's bound to become one show that you don't want to miss.
love jade.
