Teenage Tom Petties have shared ‘Night Nurse’ from their new self-titled album, out now on Safe Suburban Home and Repeating Cloud.
Songwriter Tom Brown says the song started life as a 1950s ballad about struggling to sleep before evolving into something more in line with Cheap Trick or The Smoking Popes. There’s plenty of self reflection in the lyrics (‘Was it worth it or did it make things worse to always need a bottle of Night Nurse?’) while there’s a refreshing touch of fuzz and scuzz in the guitars and smashed drums.
The closing ‘woahs’ are just the cherry on top of this perfect slice of power pop.
